However, a dentist in Colorado have tested this banana peel method and reported no change in the color of his teeth after a period of 14 days.

Then why are so many people still agitating for banana peel as a cheap, effective, and natural method of teeth whitening?  The teeth whitening using banana peel is individualistic. It may work for certain people, but not for others. However,  there’s yet no scientific proof to back this assertion.

To use banana peel for teeth whitening, follow the steps below:

Choose a banana from your fruit bowl. Ensure it is ripe because it contains the most minerals.

  • Peel a single strip from the banana, leaving the rest of the skin intact. This is because you can refrigerate it and use it over the next few days.
  • Peel the banana from bottom to top as this leaves more of the stringy flesh attached.
  • Rub the inside of the banana peel against your top and bottom teeth continuously, until they are completely coated in a layer of banana paste.
  • Keep your mouth open and your lips away from your teeth for about 10 minutes to prevent the banana paste from rubbing off.
  • After ten minutes, take a dry toothbrush and use it to brush the banana paste into your teeth using gentle circular motions, for one to three minutes. This will help to get it into all the little corners.
  • Wet your toothbrush and rinse the banana paste from your teeth using your toothbrush.
  • You can use your regular toothpaste if you like.
